Pick 2: The New Official LSAT TriplePrep (Volumes 2–20)

LSAC (Law School Admission Council)Multiple volumes; each collects previously administered PrepTests

What’s inside

  • Three official PrepTests per volume (for example, Volume 2 contains PrepTests 155–157)
  • Answer keys and score-conversion tables
  • Answer sheets
Best forCheap, real LR and RC sections on paper once you’ve used up the free LawHub tests.
Watch outThese are older tests that include an Analytical Reasoning (Logic Games) section—skip it—and their score-conversion tables assume the old format, so don’t use them to predict a score.

Pick 3: LSAT Premium Prep (2026): Master the Digital LSAT with Exclusive 99th-Percentile Instructor Videos, Data-Driven Strategies, and Official Practice

Kaplan Test Prep2026 edition (published December 2024)

Best forA single course-in-a-book that covers the current format from the ground up.
Watch outKaplan lists a 2027–2028 edition for January 2027, so if you’re buying after that, get the newer one.

  • Access to an official full-length exam from LSAC
  • Online analytics by section and question type

Mike KimFourth Edition

What’s inside

  • Instruction for Logical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension
  • Over a dozen original drills
  • Described by the publisher as updated for the latest LSAT
Best forSelf-studiers who want to understand why answers work instead of memorizing question templates.

Pick 6: The PowerScore LSAT Logical Reasoning Bible

PowerScoreLatest edition

What’s inside

  • Book-length treatment of the Logical Reasoning section
  • Companion Logical Reasoning Bible Workbook sold separately
Best forMethodical learners who want a detailed, type-by-type system for Logical Reasoning.

Pick 7: The PowerScore LSAT Reading Comprehension Bible

PowerScoreLatest edition

  • Book-length treatment of the Reading Comprehension section
  • Companion Reading Comprehension Bible Workbook sold separately

The short answer

Start with LSAC's own material. A free LawHub account gives you four full official PrepTests in the real test interface, and LawHub Advantage opens LSAC's larger library for a year. No commercial book can match real questions written by the people who write your test.

Then add one strategy resource to learn the question types—a full course book like Kaplan's LSAT Premium Prep, or a concept-first guide like The LSAT Trainer—and, if Logical Reasoning is your weak spot, an LR-specific book. That's it. Stacking five strategy books mostly teaches you five vocabularies for the same ideas.

How we picked

Our picks are based on publisher-listed contents, alignment with the current official format (two scored Logical Reasoning sections, one scored Reading Comprehension section, no Logic Games), and edition currency—not on working through every book cover to cover. We put LSAC's official material first because it's the only source of real LSAT questions and the only practice in the official interface. We don't list prices, and we only describe contents the publisher states.

Watch out for Logic Games

Analytical Reasoning (Logic Games) was removed starting with the August 2024 LSAT. Plenty of books still on shelves—and most used copies—were written for the old test, and some publishers still sell dedicated Logic Games titles.

  • Skip Logic Games chapters and books entirely. Some people argue games practice sharpens conditional reasoning, but you'll get more from the same hours spent on Logical Reasoning questions that actually appear on your test.
  • Older official PrepTests are still useful for LR and RC practice—just skip the games section and don't use the old score-conversion tables to predict a score.
  • Check the publication date. Anything published before late 2024 was likely written for the old format, even if its LR and RC chapters are still sound.

LawHub or paper PrepTest books?

Both give you real LSAT questions, but they're not interchangeable.

  • LawHub is digital, uses the same interface you'll see at the test center (updated for the 2026–27 cycle), with test-day tools like answer elimination and highlighting. Use it for diagnostics and every full-length practice test.
  • Paper PrepTest books like LSAC's TriplePrep volumes are handy for drilling individual LR and RC sections, marking up passages, and studying away from a screen. But they're older tests that include a Logic Games section, and their conversion tables were built for the old format.

A reasonable split: paper for untimed drilling and review, LawHub for anything timed or full-length. Your test-day habits—flagging, navigating, highlighting—should be built in the digital interface.

What to skip

  • Logic Games books and workbooks, including PowerScore's Logic Games Bible and any "games" drill books. The section is gone.
  • Full-length practice tests from pre-2024 commercial books as a score predictor. Their structure doesn't match today's test.
  • Buying every strategy book. Pick one teaching system and spend the rest of your time on official questions.
  • Books for the writing task. The Argumentative Writing sample isn't scored; LSAC's free sample prompts are all the practice you need.

How to combine these resources

  1. Diagnostic: take one free LawHub PrepTest under full timing.
  2. Learn: work through your strategy book's LR and RC chapters, doing its drills untimed.
  3. Practice: switch to official sections—timed 35-minute LR and RC sections from LawHub or older PrepTest books (skipping games).
  4. Test: take full four-section PrepTests in LawHub every week or so in the final stretch, and review every miss.

Pair any of these with our free LSAT practice test for extra original questions, and use our Logical Reasoning guide and Reading Comprehension guide as free companions to any book. For the format, dates, and fees, see the LSAT overview.

Which one is right for you?

  • Tight budget: LawHub's free PrepTests plus our free guides and practice test. Apply for an LSAC fee waiver if you qualify, and ask any prep company you're considering whether it offers fee-waiver discounts.
  • Want one book that covers everything: Kaplan's LSAT Premium Prep.
  • Want to understand the reasoning, not memorize templates: The LSAT Trainer (Fourth Edition).
  • LR is dragging your score down: add Kaplan's LSAT Logical Reasoning Prep or PowerScore's Logical Reasoning Bible—not both.
  • Passages are the problem: PowerScore's Reading Comprehension Bible, then lots of timed official RC sections.

Frequently asked questions

Are old LSAT prep books still useful?

Their Logical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension chapters often are. Skip anything about Logic Games, which was removed starting with the August 2024 LSAT, and don't trust old score-conversion tables for today's three-scored-section test.

Do I need LawHub Advantage?

Not at first. Use the four free PrepTests for a diagnostic and your first full practice tests. Advantage is worth considering once you're ready to take many full-length tests in the official interface.

How many prep books should I buy?

Usually one strategy book, plus an LR-specific book only if LR is clearly your weak spot. Your real volume should come from official PrepTests.

Should I wait for Kaplan’s 2027–2028 edition?

Only if your test is well into 2027. The publisher lists the 2027–2028 edition for January 5, 2027. The 2026 edition was already updated for the post-2024 format, so it covers the test you'll take this fall or winter.

What’s the best free LSAT prep?

LSAC's four free PrepTests on LawHub, in the official interface, plus its free Argumentative Writing sample prompts. Add our free LSAT practice test and section guides for strategy. If you qualify for an LSAC fee waiver, ask prep companies that license official LSAT content whether they offer waiver-recipient discounts.

Is there a book for the Argumentative Writing section?

You don't need one. The task isn't scored, and LSAC's sample prompts in LawHub are the best practice. Do at least one timed prompt so you're comfortable with the 15-minute prewriting and 35-minute writing split.
