The short version
- The site collects what you type into a form (your email, and your name and message if you use the contact form) and basic analytics.
- Practice-test progress stays in your browser. It isn’t sent to us.
- Your information isn’t sold.
Information you give us
When you submit the contact form or sign up for email updates, what you enter (for example your email address, name, topic and message) is sent to a Google Sheet through a Google Apps Script. The form also records the page you submitted it from. If you sign up from a practice-test results screen, the form includes the test name and your percentage score so the email you get is relevant.
That information is used to reply to you and to send the emails you asked for. Forms include a hidden anti-spam field; it doesn’t collect anything about you.
Analytics
Pages load a first-party analytics script that records page views and basic technical details such as the referring page, browser and device type. When you finish a practice test, it also records that event with the test, mode and score percentage (not your individual answers). This is used to see which pages and tests are useful, in aggregate.
Practice-test progress (local storage)
Practice tests save your progress, answers and last result in your browser’s localStorage so you can close the tab and resume later. That data stays on your device and isn’t sent to us. Clearing your browser’s site data deletes it. The citizenship tools store your last result and “I know this” checkmarks the same way.
Third parties
- Amazon Associates. Book and course pages link to Amazon with an affiliate tag. If you click one, Amazon may set cookies on amazon.com to attribute the purchase. Amazon’s privacy notice covers what happens there.
- Google Fonts. Fonts load from Google’s servers, so your browser sends Google a request that includes your IP address.
- Google Sheets. Form submissions are stored in Google’s infrastructure, as described above.
- Official sites and share buttons. Links to test makers and other sources, and the optional share buttons on the citizenship quiz (X and Facebook), take you to sites with their own privacy policies. Nothing is shared unless you click.
No selling of data
Your personal information isn’t sold or rented to anyone, and it isn’t shared except with the service providers above that make the site work.
How long it’s kept
Contact messages are kept as long as needed to answer them and handle any follow-up. Email signups are kept until you unsubscribe or ask for removal. To have your information deleted, send a request through the contact form using the same email address.
Children
This is a general-audience site. Pages about K-12 admissions and gifted tests (such as the SSAT, ISEE, CogAT and PSAT) are written for parents and students. The site doesn’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 submitted a form, contact us and it will be deleted.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
